The most frustrating aspect in the research of ghostly activity is that the indentities and personal circumstances of the subjects concerned are lost for ever in the mists of time - not only beyond living memory but obscured by the passing of the centuries. All the relevant family history of the former resident who haunts this locality were revealed when I dined with his grandson. The courtesy was soon repaid. When asked by a tourist if I knew of the family I was able to introduce her to a long-lost relative.
